Backpack Kelty

Backpack Kelty

Since 1952, to backpack Kelty style has been an affordable and reliable experience for the first-time camper to the experienced climber.

After making packs in his home garage for friends, Dick Kelty starts his business selling packs for 24 dollars each. Quite a bit cheaper than today's models...

Dick would weld each frame and his wife would sew the backpack bags. To backpack Kelty in the early days meant, aircraft-aluminum frames, shoulder straps using wool carpeting for padding.

By 1956 Dick Kelty left his carpentry business to go full-time in Kelty Packs. He bought an old barber shop for his first retail store and "factory" in Glendale, California.

By 1963 the backpack Kelty is used exclusively on the first American ascent of the West Ridge of Mt. Everest. And, by 1974 Kelty introduces its first internal frame backpacks.

Today if you were to make a backpack Kelty style, you would need the latest materials and technology. Kelty packs were some of the first innovators in outdoor gear and today they are still innovating.

If you're looking for a backpack company that uses the latest technology, materials, and has proven track record than Kelty is your answer. From beginner to expert there's a pack for everyone.
